La Casa Pizzeria (Omaha, NE) – On the first night this place opened its doors back in 1953, founder Joe Patane and family ran out of food halfway through the evening. A stressful experience to be sure, but it also validated his hunch about how popular Neapolitan-style pizza could be in the area. Since then it has become one of Omaha’s favorite pizza destinations. The restaurant is currently managed by the third generation of Joe’s family – no word about whether they’ve ever run out of food since. Side note: There is also a pretty great neon sign sitting on the roof of this place.
