Corn Palace Motel (Mitchell, SD) – If there’s one thing Mitchell, SD is known for it’s the Corn Palace… the World’s Only Corn Palace, that is. If you’re ever in the area I recommend stopping by. It’s a pretty impressive sight – each year the entire facade is decorated with a mural made up entirely of corn. The design changes every year and usually reflects what is going on in the world at that time. The tradition itself started way back in 1892 as a way to celebrate the healthy agricultural climate of the state.
