Blue Marlin Motel (Key West, FL) – The Blue Marlin Motel is located in Old Town Key West. On the corner of that block sits a locally-owned convenience store… and outside of that store sits José. José is a middle-aged Cuban man with a heart of gold. He is surrounded by a wall of coconuts with straws sticking out of them and is listening to an old school boombox playing Latin music. He may or may not be awake when you pass by. If you ever do, make sure to say hello and buy a coconut from him. If your encounter with him goes as ours did, you will experience the following: drinking coconut water out of a coconut, being posed with coconut-themed flower arrangements for iPhone pictures, taken to the alley where he splits the empty coconut open with an axe, having him scoop the coconut flesh out with a kitchen spoon for you to eat, and then possibly posing for more pictures that include both you and José. I highly recommend this experience.
